News and New Photos

Hello all from the very snowy Northeast! I figured I’d take advantage of being snowed in to share some really exciting news and a few new photos.

First things first – I am thrilled to report that my work is currently being shown in Cambridge, England! United Photo Industries joined with the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Cambridge to create Human Flows, a group exhibition of photography on the topic of humanity and movement. I’m on the lookout for photos of the installation and show opening, but in the meantime, you can read more about the exhibition here.

Over the last two months I also took advantage of the break between my classes to do a bit of shooting towards a new project. I’m keeping most of the work private until the project is complete, but I wanted to share two of the new images with you. I also rediscovered an old image from 2008, and you can see all three below. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the work in the comments!

Shoot day tomorrow . . .

For me, that means nerves.

One chance at getting what I want out of a shoot – I can’t replicate anything I do. So pressure pressure pressure.

Which means it is time to drift back into hazy memory of a different date, and a different place:

PRC Auction – October 13th!

A month from today is the Photographic Resource Center’s annual benefit auction, and I’m honored to be one of the photographers with a piece in the silent auction. The image is one I shot while shooting for Unrelenting Silence and is a great example of why I shoot the way I do, and why I love shooting with film:

I highly recommend attending the auction if you can as it will be a great evening filled with photography, food and wine, and the excitement of the live auction. Check out photos from last year’s auction (I’m in a few as an art handler!). It’s an event not to be missed!

Women in Photography Night at the Photographic Resource Center

I have been volunteering with the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) at Boston University since last October, and have greatly enjoyed the various events and opportunities they offer. The organization truly is one of the best resources for photographers in New England. I was very excited to have the opportunity to share my work at one of their peer-review nights last Thursday. Lisa Kessler, a professor at Endicott College, hosted the night in which I, Leslie Jardine, Barbara Trachtenberg, Paris Visone, and Ryan McMahon shared our work. The conversation was lively, and the work shared showed a wide breadth of photographic interests and the stellar quality of work happening in the Boston area.

Female x Female Exhibition

unwrapping photos

As I was unwrapping my photos at the Hallway Gallery in Jamaica Plain today, I remembered something; I’m an artist. For all the hours I have spent in galleries and museums in the last three years, it has always been as a volunteer or staff. I forgot what it was like be on the other side, and I am so excited to be the artist again.

Starting this Thursday the 3rd, I will have six photos in the exhibition Female x Female at the Hallway Gallery in Jamaica Plain. The opening is on Thursday from 6-9. Please come by! It will be a great show and a lovely evening. If you can’t make it that night, the exhibition is up until November 27th. Gallery hours are Thursdays 4-8pm, Friday and Saturday 11a-7p, and Sunday 12p-4p.

Exhibition website

“Kate True, Carolyn Johnson, Darien Bird, Dana Cowley, Maria Molteni and others will be exhibiting an array of mediums and styles with the female figure taking center stage.”

The work that I have on view is from my Resonance series, which you can see here.

Hope to see everyone on Thursday night! If you can’t make it Thursday but make it down another time, drop me a line and let me know what you thought of the show.
